A Universally Accessible Playground Project
Why Inclusive Play Matters 🫶
Play is essential to every child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. It’s how children learn to solve problems, build friendships, strengthen their bodies, and explore their imaginations. Unfortunately, most playgrounds unintentionally exclude children with disabilities or critical illnesses, limiting their opportunities for exercise, entertainment, and social interaction. Only a small percentage of playgrounds in the United States are fully accessible—far too few to serve the 43 million Americans living with disabilities.
What Makes an Inclusive Playground Different? 🤔
An Inclusive Playground is intentionally designed to remove physical and social barriers so ALL children—those with and without disabilities or critical illnesses—can play side by side. The City of Collinsville is committed to building a playground where every child, regardless of ability, background, or circumstance, can belong, thrive, and play freely.
Our design will offer sensory‑rich experiences, tactile exploration, and meaningful opportunities for social interaction. Children of all abilities will be able to engage, connect, and create memories together.
A Vision Where Every Child Belongs💜
We imagine a playground where laughter knows no bounds—where children swing side by side, climb together, and imagine without limits. A place where diversity is celebrated, barriers are dismantled, and every child can participate fully in the joy of play.
Through thoughtful design, innovative equipment, and a commitment to universal accessibility, this playground will become a beacon of inclusivity in our community. It will be a space that nurtures empathy, understanding, and acceptance.
