PFAS Update - September 29th, 2025

Post Date:09/29/2025
The City of Collinsville appreciates the community's patience as we navigate addressing the elevated PFAS levels in our City's water.

This issue is deeply important to our community, and we hope to provide you all with as much clarity as possible.

That being said, we wanted to provide a brief update on some of the actions that City of Collinsville officials have been working on related to PFAS over the past few days:
  1. On Friday afternoon, City leadership met with Senator Erica Harriss and State Rep. Katie Stuart along with representatives from Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski's and Senator Tammy Duckworth's offices to explore any potential opportunities to provide PFAS filters to Collinsville water customers. Additionally, they discussed the potential of safely expediting the IEPA Review Guidelines for the specialized PFAS removal systems that are being designed for the Water Treatment Plant.
  2. Over the weekend, City Manager Derek Jackson spoke with County and Collinsville Township officials regarding potential funding and support systems for Collinsville water customers.
  3. On Saturday evening, the City put out an updated PFAS statement and FAQ on its City of Collinsville, Illinois (Official) Facebook Page and website. We encourage residents to read through the resources that are available on www.collinsvilleil.org/pfas and share factual information with your friends and family members.
  4. This morning, leadership from the City's Administrative, Public Works and Finance teams met to weigh various options for assistance programs to Collinsville water customers. A program has not been finalized yet, but we will make public announcements once available.
  5. Today, the City received guidance from the Madison County Health Department stating that restaurants are not required to address PFAS through any sort of PFAS filtration system. Additionally, Kendrick Soer, Chief Building Official for the City of Collinsville, provided guidance that PFAS filtration systems are not required for commercial businesses in the Illinois State Plumbing Code.
We understand how concerning PFAS can be, and we remain committed to both transparency and safety.

We encourage residents to continue to check our PFAS webpage – where FAQs and updates are posted – at www.collinsvilleil.org/pfas
