City Provides Updated Guidance for Drinking/Cooking with Tap Water

Post Date:09/26/2025

At the September 23rd, 2025 City Council Meeting, Chief Water Operator Michael Crawford and Superintendent of Utilities William Jones provided an update to their June 10th Council Discussion based on updated testing for PFAS – Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), Perfluorooctanesulfonic Acid (PFOS), and Perfluorohexanesulfonic Acid (PFHxS) – that have been detected in the City’s untreated raw well water as well as the City’s finished treated water.

As Crawford stated during the presentation: "Based on these recent test results, the Water Department at the City of Collinsville now recommends that all customers filter their City tap water before cooking or drinking. The EPA lists, on their website, a number of filters and solutions to removing PFAS from water at point-of-use. They include Granular Activated Carbon Filters, Reverse Osmosis or RO House Systems, and Anion Exchange House Systems. Customers can still bathe and wash their clothes in the tap water safely."

Visit the City's PFAS Updates webpage for FAQs, recommended filters, Public Health Notices, PFAS Reports and videos of Council Meeting discussions.
