Miner’s Institute Foundation Receives Grant from Ameren Illinois

Funds will support the installation of a new fire alarm system for the Miner’s Theatre

COLLINSVILLE, ILLINOIS - MAY 19, 2015 - Miner’s Institute Foundation has received a $1,000 grant from Ameren Illinois to support the purchase and installation of a new fire alarm system necessary to reopen the historic Miner’s Theatre.

“I cannot express how thankful we are for this generous contribution from Ameren Illinois.” said Leah Joyce, president of the Miner’s Institute Foundation. “Without the support of our community and region, restoring this historic theatre wouldn’t be possible.”

The Miner's Institute Foundation (MIF) is a non-profit corporation organized by volunteer citizens for the purpose of raising funds for the rehabilitation and support of the Miner's Institute. The current focus of this summer’s outreach efforts has been raising the necessary funds to purchase and install the fire alarm system required by current Life Safety Code. Once this project is complete, the Miner’s Institute Foundation will be one step closer to its goal of reopening the theatre on its 100 year birthday in 2018.

The grant funds were made available through the Ameren Cares program, which connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering. Gussie Reed, Director of Division V Operations for Ameren Illinois, said a key focus of this program is to partner with non-profit organizations to improve the quality of life in Ameren Illinois’ service territory.

“The Miner’s Theatre has a long-standing history in Collinsville and we are proud to support the Miners Institute Foundation on the restoration of this landmark through this contribution as well as volunteer efforts,” said Reed. “Ameren Illinois employees not only work in communities throughout Illinois, but we live in them too. So we are dedicated to improving the places we call home.”
